Welcome to Borenya.org :
Your Connection to the Culture of West Africa

In the countries of West Africa music and rhythm are as large a part of everyday life as conversation, cooking or walking about. The stories portrayed through drumming and dance acknowledge and celebrate marriage, child rearing, changing seasons, healing, hunting, and the planting and harvesting of crops. West African people have a song or dance for almost every aspect of daily existence. Many are hundreds of years old and are still performed precisely as they were by the ancestors.

Borenya West African Drum and Dance honors the authentic integrity of West African musical arts. Bringing the music and dance of Africa to people of all ages, Borenya shares its knowledge and appreciation of these traditions. By celebrating these beautiful and ancient art forms with our audiences we are sharing a connection to a cultural history that has existed since the beginning of humanity.

Borenya is a workshop and performance touring company comprised of artists from Guinea, West Africa. We will bring West African drumming and dance to schools, community groups and large and small performance venues in your community. See the Schedule page for events near you. Contact us about booking a performance or workshop or for additional information.

We thoroughly enjoyed Borenya's performance Saturday night. It was enthralling, electrifying, moving. I can imagine that the members of Borenya derive tremendous joy from performing and from the warm response from the audience.

Best wishes,
Dr. Paul Higgins
